NASA Job: Systems Engineer — Behind the Spacecraft: Europa Clipper
Description
Meet Valeria Salazar, a systems engineer at NASA who helped integrate and assemble the hundreds of components that make up Europa Clipper — a spacecraft designed to explore Europa, a moon of Jupiter that is home to a vast liquid water ocean beneath its icy surface.
As a child growing up in Mexico, Valeria dreamed of working for NASA, and now she’s part of a team that aims to answer the question: does Europa have the right conditions to support life beyond Earth?
Europa Clipper is set to launch in October 2024 from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. It will arrive at Jupiter in 2030. The mission is managed by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California, with key spacecraft infrastructure contributions from the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, Maryland.
