Storm to threaten UK, France with damaging winds next week

The stormy pattern across western Europe continues as another storm is forecast to bring damaging winds to the region.

A storm is expected to approach the British Isles early in the week, introducing gusty winds and a dose of heavier rain by late in the day on Monday.

"The heaviest rain is expected from western Scotland through Wales and western England from Monday into Tuesday," said AccuWeather Meteorologist Rob Richards.

Rainfall amounts of 25-50 mm (1-2 inches) are expected in this area in the United Kingdom, with an AccuWeather Local StormMax™ of 75 mm (3 inches).

"Because the heaviest rain will be falling over just a few hours, this could lead to flooding issues for Scotland, Wales and western England," Richards said.

In addition to heavy rain, winds will increase throughout the day on Monday.

After starting in Ireland and the United Kingdom, strong wind gusts will stretch to France, as well as parts of Belgium, Netherlands and northwestern Germany through Wednesday.

Localized wind gusts of 65-80 km/h (40-50 mph) are expected across most of the region.

The highest wind gusts, at a magnitude of 80-100 km/h (50-60 mph), are expected in western Scotland, Northern Ireland, southwestern Wales and England, as well as northwestern France.
