The USSF-8 mission will launch two GSSAP satellites into a near-geosynchronous orbit 36,000 km (22,300 miles) above the equator. These satellites will enable surveillance activities as a specialized Space Surveillance network (SSN) sensor for the US Space Force's SSC, working in tandem with ground-based radars and telescopes.
United Launch Alliance (ULA) is prepared to launch another mission for the Space Systems Command of the United States Space Force (SSC). Their Atlas V 511 rocket will transport two identical Geosynchronous Space Situational Awareness Program (GSSAP) satellites — GSSAP-5 and GSSAP-6 — into a near-geosynchronous (GEO) orbit on this mission. This mission will be the company's first launch in 2022, as well as the first and only planned flight of the Atlas V 511 configuration. The rocket will take off from Space Launch Complex-41 at Florida's Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.
