X9! Sun unleashes biggest solar flare since 2017 - See a time-lapse
Description
Sunspot AR3842 erupted with an X9-class solar flare on Oct. 1, 2024. It was the biggest flare since the X8.2 flare of September 2017.
NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory captured the fireworks.
